I didn’t have any Indian friend in my group, so I practically thrived on burgers and hotdogs in terms of food. The first setback I experienced was on Christmas. Christmas was such a big festival there that it almost reminded me of Diwali in Delhi, my hometown. Surprisingly, my friends who were otherwise into partying and hanging out most of the times, chose to spend time their family! I was invited to one of their places formally and I was surprised to notice that I was on the verge of choking seeing their entire family together. Memories of last Christmas flashed back into my mind where I vividly remember that I went out with my family and had a grand dinner at one of favorite restaurants in Saket.
I grew increasingly home (country, in fact!) sick and gradually the unbelievable happened to me- I started craving typical North Indian food. Initially I found it hard to admit, but I repented having rejected going to the best north Indian restaurants in Gurgaon once for a Mexican restaurant. Ah those flavors, and home-made food became a sweet dream for me. it was only when I returned to India I took a vow that I would never ever say no to Indian cuisine, and I realized how dear I hold them to my heart! My father, mother, sister, and I go out together only when to celebrate birthdays. So naturally, I started dreading the dinner we were supposed to have on my mother’s birthday days before the actual occasion. My life was going pretty well and I was in no mood to spoil one precious night. On top of that, my aunt (who my father is not very fond of) decided to visit us on that very day. Not a good combination at all! I could only pray and hope for the night to end peacefully. North Indian food being my mother’s favourite, we decided to visit one of the well-known North Indian restaurants in Gurgaon. Much to my surprise, we reached there on time and got a table quite easily. While I was still hoping to escape somehow, the amazing ambiance and music of that place immediately lifted my sombre mood. The music was so good that my sister and I felt like having a glass of red wine each. The best part was that my parents and aunt didn’t say a word; they were fine with us drinking with them. So we happily ordered two glasses of wine with our order. With the food and drinks on our table, the evening continued to proceed smoothly while I was just waiting for something to go wrong. And yet nothing did! The food was absolutely amazing, just as we had expected. We happily devoured the food, chit-chatted in between the bites, and my sis and I even grooved to the music on our seats.
The evening was so successful that I am still not quite over it. I think the ambiance of the restaurant did all of us some good. It clearly was one of the best restaurants in Delhi NCR and I would surely go visit it again very soon! When it comes to food, Delhiites love their north Indian delicacies. Okay, let me bore you no longer with endless testimonials of my love for Chicken Lababdar (oops, I did it again!), and let’s get right down to the business of cooking it to perfection as a true testament to north indian cuisine in delhi.
Let’s get started! · Begin with heating up ½ cup of refined oil in a pan. Throw in 1 tsp cumin seeds along with about ½ cup chopped onion, and sauté until golden brown. · Next, add in about ½ cup of grated tomato, and continue to cook the mixture until the fat begins to spread and separate. · To the mixture, now add 1 tsp chilli powder, ½ tsp ground cumin seeds, ½ tsp kasoori methi and 1 tsp garam masala. · Now for the best bit! Well, now I understand it well, what makes my dad crave for a holiday like anything? Earlier when I would hear him say, oh god…three more days to go, two more…I would poke fun at him, but now that I’m a working myself, I realize what actually makes him say it over and over again. Well, I instantly asked all of them to head to my place without giving any second thought over it. By the time I could realize that mum and dad are already out of place and will be back next week, I had already committed to my jekos (yeah that’s what I call those morons) I wasn’t just prepared to hear another speech now. I woke up to 33 missed calls, why? Still u can’t guess why? I had asked my friends to come over. I involuntarily whispered and the words roll of my tongue habitually, what’s in lunch? This place never ever fails to surprise me and the best part is that my friends and I had a super great time relishing the delicacies over some freshly made mocktails by the star chef- ‘me’.
